Moira Mills, a product of an English-American heritage, spent her formative years on a farm in rural Alaska, where she embraced the unconventional path of "unschooling." This unique upbringing instilled in Moira a profound appreciation for exploration and self-discovery, shaping her distinct philosophy on childhood, learning, and the pivotal role of creativity and imagination in the developmental process.
Driven by a passion for helping others, Moira continued on her entrepreneurial journey in 2000 becoming a massage therapist. Her commitment to wholistic well-being led her to become a Certified Rolfer® at the Rolf Institute of Structural Integration in 2004. Relocating from Alaska to upstate New York in 2005, Moira continued her personal growth and expanded her expertise by becoming a certified health coach after studying at the Institute for Integrated Nutrition in NYC in 2011.
In 2015, after extensive travels across Europe and residencies in southern California and NYC, Moira embraced the transformative journey of motherhood, welcoming her son, London, into the world in upstate New York in 2016. This pivotal moment inspired her to develop a new local initiative for childhood learning, aimed at empowering children to take leadership in their own educational journey.
In 2017, Moira started "Albany Pop-Up Adventure Playground," a local, free-spirited initiative providing a temporary play space filled with loose parts and objects to ignite imagination and creativity. By the time of the lockdowns, over 700 people had attended these pop-ups, reflecting Moira's commitment to fostering child-led play in her community.
Currently, Moira is on a roadschooling adventure around the country with her son. As a dynamic speaker specializing in reimagining education within communities, she shares insights and experiences to inspire positive change. Moira also contributes to strengthening connections among homeschooling families through Cosmic Human Design and the Gene Keys, introducing a distinctive dimension to their individual educational journeys. With an unwavering commitment to transforming the landscape of education, Moira Mills is dedicated to creating a future where every child is empowered to lead their own learning experience.
