What if We’re Designed to Grow?
What if we don’t need to be forced at all?
People assume that if you don’t force a child to read, they’ll never learn.
That if you don’t force a person to work, they’ll do nothing.
That without pressure, deadlines, and consequences, we just... stop.
That’s one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard.
You really think humans are that lazy? That uninspired? That empty?
No. What actually happens when you stop forcing people is that they come alive.
This is a systemic issue, not an individual one.
You can’t understand the bigger picture by isolating a single element or demographic.
You have to zoom out and look at the design of the whole machine.
Children learn to read because they want to understand stories, signs, games, their world.
People work because they want to build, contribute, solve, and grow.
But when you turn learning into obedience, and work into survival, you crush the very drive you’re trying to spark.
I’m by no means anti-capitalism. I love what capitalism has been and what it can be, when it’s free, fair, and innovation-driven, not manipulated by big corporations.
It’s the only system that has pulled civilizations out of poverty.
It’s rewarded creativity.
It’s made abundance possible.
But let’s not pretend that the current model, where people live paycheck to paycheck doing work they hate just to afford a life they barely enjoy, is the pinnacle of progress.
That isn’t life.
That’s wage slavery wrapped in a shiny HR manual.
(In a world where HR doesn’t even live by their own rules.)
And now AI shows up, this incredible, expansive tool, and people freak out.
“They won’t need us anymore.”
“Jobs will disappear.”
“People will stop working.”
No. People will finally have the chance to stop wasting themselves.
Imagine a world where our basic needs are met. And I’m not talking about universal basic income.
Where people are free to think, create, build, rest, and connect.
Would we devolve into chaos? Or might we evolve into something higher?
Sure, some people will try to game the system.
But that happens in every system.
They won’t be artificially propped up with endless handouts, either.
People will still own their actions and their effort. That’s the difference.
A child gets just as much value from learning to read at twelve as they do at five.
The difference is:
One creates an adult who reads because they love it.
The other creates an adult who can read, but will they ever?
Or will they just wait to be told what to think?
I think the last few years have shown us exactly what kind of adult the current system produces.
Not with joy.
Not with depth.
Not with meaning.
Maybe AI takes the drudgery, not the dignity.
Maybe we stop forcing kids to prove they're learning, and start trusting them to show us what lights them up.
Maybe we stop defining worth by output, and start looking at alignment instead.
We are not here just to pay bills and die.
We are not here to raise children who are obedient but empty.
We are not here to fear our own power.
We are here to create.
To learn.
To love.
To leave things better.
And we do not need to be forced.
